Changes are a-coming (and one of them is a podcast)

As some of you may know, I’ve been thinking about changing my blog name for a while now. I started up Jenny’s Books in college thinking that it would track my reading and entertain a few of my friends-and-relations. I really didn’t anticipate that it would last so long or that I would end up loving the book blogging community as much as I do. But so it has proved! So here’s the plan:

  1. I am renaming the blog. Yes! At last! I’m going to call it “Reading the End”. This is not the most hilarious of the blog names y’all recommended to me (that honor would go to Care’s idea, “Jenny’s Amazing and Not Boring Thoughts about Books and Other Cool Stuff You Need to Know About” or Kristen’s, “Thus Saith Jenny”), but it’s the one that I think will be most easily remembered, since almost everyone I asked mentioned the fact that I read the end before I read the middle.
  2. I am moving to a whole new site, a dot-com domain that I will own. The WordPress theme I’m going to use will be very clean and attractive; there will be a button you can click for a short(er) URL to each post; and the tags will be more clearly differentiated than in days past. I have been making some minor changes to the CSS and have proved to be a CSS GENIUS (hyperbole), so if there’s something you don’t love about the new theme when it shows up, I invite you to tell me so that I can make more CSS changes. Changing the CSS makes me feel powerful.
  3. The really really big news: I am starting a podcast. Eek! I am nervous about this part! I mentioned it very tentatively to Captain Hammer, and he responded with an outpouring of enthusiasm and ideas and offers of assistance. Thanks to enthusiasm from Captain Hammer and Miniature Former Roommate (woe! I miss you, Miniature Roommate!), I was brave enough to ask my friend Jenny (yes, we are both called Jenny) if she wanted to do a book podcast with me. And she did! So now we are going to do that. This is, like the new website, a work in progress. We did a test run yesterday and had a lot of fun, and I think we’re both really excited to record more.

So that’s what’s coming up over the next few months. If there are any books you particularly want us to talk about, or literary questions you would like us to address, you are (and will continue to be) strongly encouraged to email us at readingtheend (at) gmail (dot) com.

  1. Woah! AMAZING AND EXCITING CHANGES and I am very excited for them, yes!

I LOVE your new theme, btw! And your new blog title! And EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUUUUUUUU JENNY~! <3

    • Yay! Yay! I am so excited to hear what you blog people think of our podcast. (and maybe be special guest stars? that is a thing I’m going to want to have happen)

  2. Sounds like fun! I once tried to find the podcast equivalent of book blogs and failed: it seems like the ones out there are more industry/focused on pushing new releases. So I’m excited to hear yours. :D

    • Hahaha, YES. “Podcast equivalent of book blogs” is exactly the reason I wanted to start a podcast. There’s a podcast I like called “Books on the Nightstand”, but that one’s definitely very new-release focused. So after a while I thought, well hey, if this doesn’t exist I can just start my own! :p

  3. Oh this is wonderful! I’m excited to hear your podcast and see the new look!! I’ve thought about switching back to my old regularrumination.wordpress.com site, but I just love being able to tinker with my layout too much. Definitely worth it.

  4. Hooray! I’ll listen to your podcast on the way to work, and it will be as close to reading as I can get! (I ride a bus, and reading on buses doesn’t work for me.)

    • Hahahah, yes, you will. My friend Jenny who’s doing it with me (I’ll be calling her Whiskey Jenny to differentiate her) says that when recorded we sound like two very excited mice. So um, keep that mental idea and you will not be disappointed. :p

    • Will do! I am secretly hoping that you will guest-star at some point, but I didn’t want to bring it up until everything was established. :p

  5. Ok, so excited for these changes! I have been MIA for awhile due to some stuff, and now I’m back, and you are changing things, and Captain Hammer is right, you NEED a podcast. Your posts are always so funny that I read them aloud to the hubs and he always says “Damnit Neville”, so the new podcast will be great. Then we can share your posts together a lot easier! Keep us posted!

    • Will do! We’re hoping to record a couple more episodes (so we’ll have them all loaded up and ready to go) and transfer to the new site by the end of the month.

  6. Oo, lots to look forward to, especially the podcast. Getting the hang of CSS is awesome, suddenly you’ve the power to change things exactly the way you want :)

  7. When I grasped that there would be a podcast involving two Jennys, the song “867-5309″ by Tommy Tutone immediately came into my head: “Jenny, Jenny, who can I turn to?” etc. So if you need a name for the podcast specifically, may I submit something involving Tommy Tutone?

    • Hahahaha, I know, that would be great. Except I do sooooort of hate that song through too much exposure. (Also, when guys ask me for my number in bars and won’t take no, I have been known on several occasions to give the Tommy Tutone number instead of my real number. So I feel slightly guilty when I think about that song.)

  8. Reading the End is a good name, and this strikes me as a good time for a change; the way I used to keep track of blog posts disappeared suddenly (it was an idiosyncratic method anyway) and I have been lost at sea as have so many former devotees of google reader.

  9. WOOHOO! Great new blog name. And don’t you just love tinkering with layouts? I remember my young days on Neopets, learning HTML. Ah, my misspent youth…

Also, the podcast sounds great. Please tell me the fact that there are two Jennies will influence the title. Double Jenny sounds too adorable not to.

    • That seems totally NOT misspent. That seems, like, suitably spent. I sort of wish I’d done that.

The fact that there are two Jennies will influence the subtitle — is that sufficient?
