Really a Lot of Handsome Men: A Links Round-Up

If you are an enjoyer of handsome men, this is the links round-up for you! To be quite honest, the world has been mighty daunting these past two weeks, and I haven’t wanted to include a lot of things in my links round-up that would bum you out more. I tried to mostly have fun stuff in here instead. Not sure if this is going to be the new path forward for these links round-ups? I don’t know. Do y’all have a preference? Incisive commentary, or fluffy cheering-up items? A blend?

Angelica Jade Bastién wrote that piece for Vulture a while back about James Marsden’s handsomeness, and here she’s got another one about Jude Law’s handsomeness. This type of piece can always happen, please and thank you.

Here’s Rawaha Haile on hiking the Appalachian trail with black authors for company.

Idris Elba gets dating advice from children. You’re welcome.

The complexity of being a New England Patriots fan and why it’s not fun anymore. This is actually super relatable to me, even though I hate the Patriots with the fire of a thousand suns.

Ursula K. Le Guin wrote in to the Oregonian to protest the comparison of “alternative facts” to the work of science fiction writers.

I have a lot, A LOT, of questions about what goes on at a miniaturist convention. A LOT, and also, I kind of want to go to a miniaturist convention and then write a murder mystery set at a miniaturist convention. Don’t you?

On revisiting James Baldwin, and struggling to find hope.

I honestly am so joyful when GQ releases longform celebrity profiles. Even when they’re positive, like this one, they are also SO BRUTAL. Here’s a brutal, funny, affectionate profile of Tom Hiddleston.

Here is a happy song for babies. It is also a happy song for adults like me. I bought it on Amazon and have listened to it on repeat, um, kind of a lot. You can listen for free here!

Enjoy your weekends!

So enjoyed reading about both the handsome men, although I felt Jude Law was handsome only for a short duration, I think (during that Ripley phase).

  • MumsyNK

I depend on you for social justice essays and diverse perspectives. But fun stuff welcome too! Maybe a mix?

  • That article on Tom Hiddleston just made my day, if not my weekend. Not only is he a gorgeous-looking man, he is authentic and nerdy to boot? SO in love now. I don’t know whether to thank you or curse you as I dwell on that article and on him while I work. 😉

The happy song for babies was so fun, and what an amazing collection of beautiful, happy babies!

  • I want to hike the Appalachian Trail just so I can take those amazing book pictures!
My poor son can relate to that article about the Patriots. Not as bad for us, maybe, because we’re Canadians – we just try to pretend we don’t know about the Trump thing (but we do).
Loved the video about the dating advice from children. 🙂

  • Stefanie@SoManyBooks

I love LeGuin, she is a take no prisoners kind of gal and I admire that! Also thanks for the dating advice for Idris Elba video. Those kids are a hoot. Don’t eat beans! And their dance moves! Really made my afternoon.

Now THIS is the post I needed for the weekend!
Love Idris Elba, I’m thinking he has to be next up for my “Before he was…” posts over at the Great British TV Site:
    Enjoy your weekend yourself!

By the way, PLEASE write a mystery set at a miniaturist convention. I have read so many bad mysteries set in coffee shops, libraries, quilting groups, ye gods. A good miniaturist murder would be awesome. Although maybe it’s already been done? (As in Betty Ren Wright’s The Dollhouse Murders? Anyone else creeped out by that one?)

  • Uhg the Pats are a thorn in my side. A THORN IN MY SIDE

  • Read Diverse Books

Ahhh, yisss, I love James Marsden and his face. <3
Jude Law is still handsome, but he was absolute perfection in the 90s. I mean, how stunning was he in "The Talented Mr. Ripley"? *heart eyes*

  • Now I need to win a date with Idris Elba….

  • Laila@BigReadingLife

I just heard about the Buzzfeed Appalachian Trail article on Pop Culture Happy Hour today, so I am going to treat myself to reading this when I get my son to sleep tonight! I love your links, be they serious or not so serious.

  • Akilah

James Baldwin, man. I can’t wait to see that movie.

  • I enjoyed that TH GQ interview, it felt really raw for something that was probably organised by his PR to improve his image.

  • Now why didn’t that happy song come about when my kids were actually babies? Now they’re all like, that’s a song for babies. Boo.

  • “Tom, it’s okay. You don’t have to talk about the tank top anymore. I got it. I understand. I’ll tell the world” is probably the best, most insultingly sweet line I’ve read this entire year. I love it.

  • Kristen M.

James Marsden AND Jude Law? Swoon.
And Z would have HATED the Happy Song sadly. The sounds of happy, screechy babies is not a favorite.

  • Tif

That video with Idris Elba was so good!
