I read the end before I read the middle. The longer people know me, the less they argue with me before telling me the spoilers I want to hear.

If you have any questions or comments (especially for the podcast!), please feel free to get in touch at readingtheend (at) gmail (dot) com. You can follow me on Twitter or be my friend (Gin Jenny) or Whiskey Jenny’s on Goodreads.

Review Policy

I’m open to receiving pitches from authors, publishers, and publicists. I’m trying to respond to all pitch emails I receive; but if I’m not able to make time to answer your email, I promise that it’s just because I’m busy, not because I’m annoyed or uninterested in receiving your pitch.

What I will read: I love smart, thoughtful speculative fiction and retellings of old stories; I’m mad for fiction that explores the delicate dynamics of power structures (within a family as well as within a society — racial dynamics, gender dynamics, class dynamics); and I’ll read almost anything with an unconventional narrative structure (epistolary novels are the joy of my life). Ghost stories thrill me. I’m particularly interested in reading more diversely, so pitch me books by authors of color or non-American authors!

My nonfiction tastes are catholic: I will read almost anything that promises to teach me new information in an engaging way. I’m interested in history, science, history of science, feminism, ethics, religion — pick your discipline, I probably want to know more about it.

What I won’t read: I’m not the hugest mystery gal (though there are exceptions), as I refuse to read anything with serial killers and I’m on a longterm hiatus from books about missing/kidnapped/dead/raped white girls. The words “multigenerational family saga” send me straight to sleep. I rarely read short story collections or poetry, and anything that you might be inclined to compare to Norman Mailer, John Updike, or Philip Roth is probably not my jam either.

That said, if you have reason to think I’d like a book that doesn’t fit into my categories, go ahead and pitch me! Part of what’s great about being a book blogger is remembering to read outside my comfort zones.

Formats I will accept: ARCs, digital ARCs, and finished books are all fine for me. I am on Edelweiss and NetGalley.

When and how I will review: Acceptance of a review copy does not guarantee a review. Occasionally I’ll start a book and find that it and I have nothing to say to each other. However, I try to write about all review copies within two or three months of receiving them. If there’s a particular schedule on which you’d like my review to post, talk to me about it and we’ll see what we can work out. I’m also interested in doing guest posts, author interviews, and giveaways — just contact me and we’ll discuss!
