Happy Mardi Gras, I guess: A Links Round-uP

The news right now is absolutely devastating, and any words of mine feel inadequate. I am saying prayers for trans kids and families in Texas, and for everyone in Ukraine (and Afghanistan, still; I have not forgotten about Afghanistan), and I am always on the lookout for ways to help, even though overall I feel very helpless. If you have recommendations of good places to send money, drop them in the comments! I continue to derive so much comfort from reading, and to that end I’ve got some links. I also recommend the brand new television show Abbott Elementary and…

THE MILLIONS BOOK PREVIEW: A Links Round-Up

Look, y’all know me, and you know that when The Millions releases its book preview, I am ruined for all else for a while. This year, Lithub has also begun releasing a book preview too, which, I mean, there can never be too many large-size book previews, right? The first half of the year book preview is up at The Millions! And here’s the Lithub one, which I haven’t perused yet so I can’t speak to how solid or unsolid it is or isn’t. This is a very good review of Marriage Story. Women can write spy thrillers too! Goddammit.…

More Dudes Than Usual In My Links Round-Up

Honestly, it’s kind of weird. Why do I have so many links to things that dudes wrote? This isn’t like me at all. WHO AM I. WHERE ARE ALL THE WOMEN. (Don’t worry, y’all, there’s still lots of things that women wrote, because I’m still me and women write amazing things.) Anyway, here are a bunch of links, two of which are about copyright and estate drama, which I adore. Enjoy! Jerry Falwell Jr. runs Liberty University like a dictator. I am SO obsessed with weird shit around writers’ estates and who controls the rights to a writer’s work and…

My godchild just gave me such a big hug: A Links Round-Up

Okay, none of these links have anything to do with my godchild. I am just high on love because the least cuddly child on earth not only gave me an enormous hug without prompting, but the hug also lasted ~75 seconds. It was the best. I love that kid so much. ANYWAY ON TO THE LINKS. Some of these are old because I have been getting lax with my links round-ups, but they’re still good, I think! The internet is not a shared space of equality. It’s as segregated as the real world. US vs UK book covers of 2018.…

At Last, the Recess: A Links Round-Up

Well this has been a hell of a Congressional season, and one of my damn senators still hasn’t held a damn town hall. But at least we’re getting a short break. Roxane Gay on Confederate and why she doesn’t want it. I’m going to share this one quote because it’s really good: It is curious that time and again, when people create alternate histories, they are largely replicating a history we already know, and intimately. They are replicating histories where whiteness thrives and people of color remain oppressed. I’ll never not want to post links about Tom Stoppard and how…
