The little notes thing is fantastic. I am so pleased I thought of doing that - it's not just to remind me what the book's about, as it is to remind me what part of the review led me to write it down. Like, if a book takes place in Britain during or between the World Wars, that's enough to bump it up to the top of my TBR list; ditto if there are orphans or Catholic schools, or multiple points of view. Or vampires. Or Victorians.

"If you like Victorian fairy tales, you’ll like this book."

That's all I need to know! I actually remember reading Jenclair's review of this and wanting to read it, but I had forgotten about it in the meantime. I love the little notes to yourself idea. I should totally start doing that.

You know, I think a lot of the Anderson references and similarities sailed straight over my head, because I can't stand his fairy tales. They're so depressing! I like The Ugly Duckling, but mostly his characters have such miserable wretched fates - especially the women!
