In reply to Rachel. I want to read Saplings! I keep forgetting to look for it when I'm at the bookstore, although I'm pretty sure they have it. Mothering Sunday is definitely worth a read, even if it's less good than some of her others.

In reply to Alyce. Oo, you're so right. I read a few of her "older" books for my adolescent literature class, and didn't much care for them. Whereas I loved Superfudge and that lot. Salman Rushdie is the opposite; I love his adult books but found his book for kids not as good (not bad! I liked it! but just not as good).

In reply to Nymeth. I mean it wasn't a huge letdown. Just a letdown for Noel Streatfeild. I may have been too harsh because I was sad that she disappointed me. I still want to read Saplings!

I love Noel Streatfeild! Have you read her adult novel Saplings? It’s brilliant. I bid for Mothering Sunday on ebay a while ago but didn’t get it…it sounds interesting and very of its time, which I always love, even if it’s not as good as her others.

I hadn’t heard about this adult book, I was only aware of the ones for kids. You know the only author I could think of that I had a similar view on (the books for a younger audience being better) was Judy Blume.

I’m sorry this was a let down, but now I’m excited about her books for children being even better than what she wrote for adults. Saplings also had a lot of characters and plenty of things going on, but somehow it all worked for me.
