Aw, thanks! I read children's fantasy (particularly go-off-to-school-y books) like a mad person, so I was definitely on steady ground with this one. I think one of the things I did like about it was Grossman's obvious affection for many of the same books I've read and loved.

Yours was a thorough review - I didn't have a strong background in many of the books that Grossman makes reference to; nicely done.

Hmm...when I don't know how to rate a book, because it stalls a bit or for the reason you stated, I usually give it a "Skim". After all, bad books are easier to review because faults are usually more obvious, but I take care I don't just rant about the downsides. :)

Oh, interesting review! I am going to give it a shot, anyway, because I am interested to see what works here. I read a great review of this on Baby Got Books as well. Maybe not the top of the TBR, but I'll definitely get to it, for the five-star parts!

The cover is cool, and the book is definitely worth a read. I'd love to see your review - as many reviews as possible, really, because I just don't know what to conclude about this book, and the more opinions I see, the easier it will be for me to adopt them as my own and pretend I was original to think of them. :P

It was interesting! (Except when it was dull.) But I'm curious to see what you make of it - whether you find it as uneven as I do. Are you a fan of the Narnia books? I'd like to see a review of The Magicians from someone who didn't read or didn't like the Narnia books.
