I didn't dislike the short story, as I recall - it wasn't one of my favorites but I had no problem with it. I think it just bugs me more when it's made to be an entire book, because I don't feel there's enough there.

I hope you can get your hands on Ordinary Victories. It's lovely.

I actually don't think the spoilers for Ordinary Victories make an enormous difference to the impact of the book - but don't listen to me! I read the end of everything!

The short story holds up better, I think, just because it's not packaged as a self-contained book. Though even then, it lacks the punch and creepiness of so many of Gaiman's short stories.

Ordinary Victories is wonderful. I can't recommend it enough.

Oh no! I think I must recommend you a very good graphic novel for your first trip out. What sort of books are your favorite sort to read?

I've read neither and fear to admit that I've never read a graphic novel. I got my son Watchmen for his birthday last year and sort of flicked through that (can't really call it reading). I agree the plot with the tigers sounds very thin!

I think I've read the Gaiman story once but I honestly can't remember what's it all about. Like Nymeth, I read the short story version.

Ordinary Victories sounds really good :)

I haven't read these, and I know I won't be reading the Neil Gaiman one. I may have to give a closer look at Ordinary Victories. That one looks interesting, so I didn't read through everything you wrote because of the spoilers.

I remember liking Miss Finch, but it's been a while, so I can't actually remember why. Also, I read the short story, not the graphic adaptation.

I skimmed through the part about Ordinary Victories because of the spoilers, but I really want to read part I.

It's not that they're indecisive parents - I mean I don't see them doing anything bad with the kid. It's just that their lives aren't very together, and I guess that's what upset me?
