In reply to Violet. Well, I'm often too lazy to bother with my reading journal too. But sometimes I like to make a note about what I'm reading, so that I'll remember it later; and sometimes I like an anecdote and I want to remember it; and sometimes I disagree with what the author seems to be saying, and I want to write down that I disagree and why (helps me organize my thoughts). So those are all things the reading journal is good for, in my case.
