Ok, I shall put it on my wish list then. And prepare for an upsetting scene (although I'm not nearly as bothered in nonfiction, since it *happened*, you know?).

SAME. AGREE. The first rape scene was upsetting enough, but then when stuff kept happening...I just got super sick of it and wanted to slap Craig Thompson and make him behave.

You absolutely should try Blankets. Blankets isn't even in the same league as the travelogue or Habibi. It's absolutely wonderful. It's one of my favorite graphic novels ever, maybe my most favorite. I can't say enough good things about it. There is an upsetting scene with Thompson and his brother and their baby-sitter (you can see where this is going), but because it's part of his real life, it's handled much more better than such scenes in Habibi.

Eek! I'll definitely avoid this one. Unnecessary rape is my BIGGEST reading turn-off. And it's way worse in graphic novels. I'm still pissed at the scene in Fables; in fact, I haven't read any other volumes since then.

Also, I felt very meh about the Thompson book I read (his travelogue...name escapes me), so I've been avoiding Blankets. But maybe I should try it anyway?
