I think the protagonist had been taught about Socrates in school. I knew about Socrates and the gadfly thing when I was that age! (The title is, now that you bring it up, totally pretentious. And nonsense to compare the events of this book to Socrates.)

They irritate me, and this makes me sad because I really wanted to enjoy this book. I have had it on my review shelf forever and a day, and I loved the idea of it, but now it seems like I wouldn’t really have a good time with it. I met the author, and she was really, really nice, and I want to give the boo a chance at least, so I will be reading it, just not nearly as soon. And people should not sneeze on one another. It’s gross and rude.
