I haven’t read this but I thoroughly enjoyed “the cookbook collecter” last year. she’s a fantastic writer, and i’ve wondered which of her novels i should read next. maybe i’ll make it this one.

I have wondered in the past whether to read this novel or not so am very happy indeed to have your review to guide me. I think on balance, I will seek it out now, despite the unnecessary slur on poor, dead Elizabeth Barratt Browning. Which will undoubtedly annoy me too. But the rest sounds intriguing.

Only you can make a book about SCIENCE sound like something that I must read right now. I can agree that perhaps a little more inclusion of gender roles in science would have been appreciated, but this review rocked my socks off, and made me want to read a book about science. And that has not happened in a long time. Stellar review today!

What? EBB almost died! And the chronic pain! I figured TB, pleurisy, or maybe even severe asthma – poor her, and she was very uncomplaining. Could’ve been a heart ailment too, like congestive heart failure, although, if it were that, I’m not sure she would have survived Pen’s birth. So I’m going with pleurisy.

But this sounds good. Would I like it?
