This is one of those authors that it seems everyone just adores!! I've been meaning to try the first book mainly because so many bloggers are fans. I'm over the love triangle thing myself...and why does it always seem like I find them when I read young adult books? I just finished Beautiful Creatures and found myself distinctly annoyed when I read the sneak peek for the second book. THERE BETTER NOT BE ONE!! That is all :)

I didn't know there was a second book, though I'm wanting to read the first since I read your review. You say ominously love triangley, I'm guessing that means nothing/not much has happened on that front yet. Really not sure what I think about series that do that, start it later. At least with ones that are upfront you can make a decision but when the series has already worked without one...

AHH I hate love triangles. & I love the Stelians and I think they are totally going to rock out on everyone. & Zuzana is freaking awesome. Also, I did not like the end because OMG how are you going to fix that?!

All these emotions have been swirling for like..the last three months. I can't wait for the next one.

Totally agree with your assessment of Akiva and his angstyness. However, I appreciate that he is trying so hard to combat his socialization. And I loved his sibs and how love outbalanced socialization crap. Yes, icky rape stuff, but I felt it was not gratuitous, which rapey stuff so often is, and in fact, the rapey stuff was always presented in a way that left no doubt that rapey stuff and rapey perpetrators are The Worst People in The (Joint) Universe(s). I, however, did NOT like the ending. I mean, why is it that everyone can see the deal with Akiva and Karou except Akiva and Karou. And also, as a separate complaint, (SPOILER ALERT): I really loved who Karou was before she knew she was Deer Girl, and I wanted Akiva to love her for being Karou rather than really being Deer Girl. Because, who/what does he really love? And finally, you didn't mention what you thought of the humans. I loved them, and thought they added immeasurably to the book, but I've seen other reviews in which the readers disdained them. So what is your take?
