Karel Capek is actually one of my favorite writers. He's recently been translated and reprinted by the Catbird Press and should be pretty easy to find. He's best known for R.U.R. and War With the Newts, both of which are kind of dystopian satire/social commentary, but I like his short stories best. I would suggest Tales From Two Pockets, and possibly Three Novels, which is really a set of three novellas.

Must listen to both episodes, this is very exciting. But Christopher Fry! I have never seen or read Curtmantle. But I sort of agree with you about Becket, although really don't you think he was just being overenthusiastic about his new(ish) job?
