It would be interesting to meet a chimpanzee. I wish there were a refuge where people could go through training and then interact with the animals on some kind of regular basis, like volunteering at the local animal shelter. That’s pretty easy, at least around here.

I had a friend in high school whose family had a small amusement park. They also had chimps. For a while, Buddy made appearances, but later he became…unpleasant. I can’t remember the female’s name, but both of them ended up aggressive. When they were young, they were fascinating.

We also have Chimp Haven locally, for discarded chimps from private sources and zoos. I always enjoy reading about them. http://www.chimphaven.org/

Hmmmm I actually like both those covers. And maybe the British one more, but I like that the American one emphasizes it’s a novel in non-curly script.

I’d read this if I were more into animals and sadness.

Now why do I not fancy this one, but still look forward to reading Karen Joy Fowler? Honestly, I baffle myself sometimes. Euphemisms about chimp sex….. now there’s a sentence I didn’t ever expect to come across!

Ooh, I want to read this! I’ve read quite a few books from an earlier era about chimps raised with human in attempts to teach them language. It would be really interesting to see a modern aspect of chimps living in human families, for however brief the period.
