You’re right that it did such a great job with the highs and lows, which I don’t think we usually see in books on the topic; everyone is usually so quick to highlight the bad. It was easy to see why the narrator cared so much for his mother and that she had a vibrant, distinct personality, even separate from her mental illness.

I think the book itself was just too weirdly narrated and the character’s weren’t well fleshed out. I’m curious about this one but will have to wait awhile before reading it.
