KJ Parker has been on my wishlist for years SOLELY DUE to the mystery aspect of his/her identity. And, of course, the whole fantasy thing. I think it's so fascinating that the identity has been a secret for so long!

Hurray for K.J. Parker! I've stockpiled a whole bunch of their books and intend to go on a K.J. Parker-a-thon in the near future, maybe, if I can get myself back in a super-practical-and-unsentimental-fantasy frame of mind. (I'm currently in a science-fiction-packed-with-emotional-resonance frame of mind.)

BLUE AND GOLD isn't on my pile, but it's available in an affordable e-book edition so I'll probably buy it to round out my eventual K.J. Parker-a-thon.

This is late and now unnecessary but I send big hugs. My feeling is: you can never have too many big hugs. K J Parker is a new name to me, but one I will clearly have to check out! We all need reliable comfort reading material to hand.

Ooh, there's a collection called Academic Exercises that's available on the Kindle and includes Purple and Black. I might have to start there. Thanks!

It's more like historical fantasy fiction, although it's actually more like historical fiction that happens to take place in an imaginary place. She doesn't have a ton of fantastical elements.

It's okay! Most people do seem to think she's a woman! My gold standard for KJ Parker's books is Purple and Gold, only because it's the first one I read and it got me all in on Parker.

Me toooooo! I think start with the novella "Purple and Gold." It's really good, and it's also short, so if you hate it, you won't be stuck with a long book. After that one, maybe The Company? And Devices and Desires is excellent, as long as you're prepared to read a big long trilogy.
