I think I was seventeen when my friends and I used a ouija board. Scary shit happened, and nobody would admit to moving the pointer thing, and we were all terrified for about a week afterwards, but the spirit didn't actually stalk us to the ends of the earth.

Unless it's just biding its time.

Also: aw! Dog!

Apparently more panic attacks happen in IKEA than in any other place (I read this somewhere and am now about to ruin my story by not being able to recall where...) so that author was onto a bright idea! I have never been part of a seance although I wouldn't say no, as I am pretty sure I'm not in a horror movie (I may be in something Woody Allen is directing, however). I am a very bad ghost spotter - whenever all my friends tell their spooky stories I have nothing to offer, so I expect I would be barred from all seances for my repressive aura. What a disappointing thought!

Have never done a seance. Also have never looked in a mirror and chanted Bloody Mary. Also never wished on a monkey's paw. WOULD NEVER. Probably would look for the dog, though, or the friend in the basement.

The gimmick was what made this book for me. The story wasn't original, but the setting and design of the whole thing was and that was brilliant.

As a digression - are you watching 'Intruders'? That cat in episode one - nuff said!

LOL. Enjoyed reading this post!
This sounds like a fun read. I'm always in for a good scary read, but scary movies is another matter.

I think the Ouija board seems to be the stuff we were into back in my school days. We were doubtful but the thought of summoning some spirits still scared us like crazy. I'm still skeptical about it now.

You are so right about how the slightly gimmick-y hook could have made the whole book gimmick-y... but it was actually really creepy. I was in for the gimmick, and even more excited to find that meat hiding there between the IKEA-esque pages.

In reply to <a href="https://readingtheend.com/2014/10/27/review-horrorstor-grady-hendrix/#comment-22381">Jess - A Book Hoarder</a>.

Do you ever read any horror? I don't usually, and this wasn't too scary for me, but that's partly because I knew all along it was ghosts.

Hahahaha, that commercial makes me laugh! I saw it for the first time shortly after writing this post, and I was like, damn, they're making the same joke I was going to make. :p

Hahahaha, well, nothing happened THAT TIME, but very lucky for you that it did not! Wouldn't you have felt guilty if you had gotten a wicked spirit and it had killed all of you!

It IS a fun read -- enjoy it if you do read it!

Okay, it does sort of count. But twelve-year-olds are bad at calculating consequences, so I at least sort of forgive them.

I would look for the dog too. Unless I knew I was in a horror movie! In which case I would know that the dog was already dead, and I would mourn her very sadly. Evil spirits always kill the dog, so the dog will stop barking at them and warning everyone when they're around.
