In reply to Athira. I KNOW! It is infuriating. But honestly, the book made me much happier than angry, because even though there were many bad things in it, it was also heartening to read about so many people working hard to make change after terrible things had happened. That's a good side of humanity to see (even if it's still very imperfect.)

In reply to aartichapati. I know, it definitely sounds like there's stuff in those records that cast an unflattering light on the US and its interference in Haitian affairs. SO sketchy. I do listen to that podcast, and I love it. I listen to it every Monday while I am collating weekend social media and publicity data. :)

Wow, this sounds so interesting and really, super terrible. Except as you say, in a lot of these situations (to name or not name) there isn’t really a good right answer. Also, five-star use of a Jafar GIF 🙂

Foreign-funded wars make me so angry! Pay for a war between two countries or two factions and when the war is no longer needed, declare a war on the more atrocious side and walk like a hero. Grrr!!!

I will have to look for this, but I have a feeling too that I am going to get very angry from reading some items in this book.

My goodness, this sounds like it would be quite an eye-opening read. And I agree, one that Eva would definitely like! I didn’t know about the US/Haiti thing, either. I wonder why we won’t give the records back and why we feel the need to redact them. That seems fishy. So much of what we (and other countries) do is fishy.

Do you listen to the On the Media podcast? I think you would enjoy it.

Wow, I did not know that about the US and Haiti. Sounds like a really good book. Also, may I just say yours is the best use of gifs in a book review I’ve seen in ages!
