There are states that celebrate Robert E. Lee's birthday? I had no idea. I'm guessing they are the same states that insist on flying the confederate flag still? We just celebrate MLK here in Minnesota and in Minneapolis at least, we are encouraged to make it a day of service and do volunteer work. I like that idea very much but when you work full time, having an extra day off to catch up on things and actually relax a little takes precedent. That probably makes me a bad, selfish person but one day when I have more time I do look forward to some sort of volunteer gig.

It sounds like you had a fantastic day yesterday. We had the day off so celebrated by hanging out. I had no idea that some states celebrate Lee and MLK on the same day. Yuck!

I had no idea that Robert E Lee got a day to himself. Although, in Illinois, we inexplicably celebrate Casimir Pulaski day. He was a Polish cavalry phenom during the Revolutionary War. As far as I know, he has absolutely no direct ties to Illinois seeing as he was good and dead before we became a state... I'm guessing we celebrate thanks to the giant Polish population in the Chicago area? I don't know. Add that to the list of reasons I don't hold public office either. We'd be a terrible pair of politicians.

I hope you had a great day! I had to work, and my kids had school so it seems neither MLK nor Robert E Lee are considered that important in Wisconsin. Boo.

I sympathize with your position on President's Day. I do not have to worry because in Louisiana we get MLK Day off AND we get Mardi Gras off, which falls sometimes in February and March, i.e., a bit farther out from Christmas. Thanks, French colonizers! :p
