I reread it a few months ago, because I’m teaching English in France and it seemed appropriate to my life. I always find the first few chapters depressing and slow going, but then Charlotte Bronte’s unique brand of insanity sucks me in and by the time I finish the book I just want to read nothing but Villette for the rest of my life. It’s probably some form of Stockholm Syndrome.

I would like Kate Beaton of Hark! A Vagrant! to abandon all her present artistic endeavors and devote herself solely to writing a webcomic about Lucy’s adventures living with Ginevra and her husband. That’d be swell.
