Also: the cheek of Mr. Paul, renting a house for Lucy without actually knowing if she'd accept it or his proposal! But all's forgiven and forgotten, after all, he trusted her enough to let her make her own way for three years, right? Or maybe he was just sure no one else wanted her?

Man, I love this book. I reread it a few months ago, because I'm teaching English in France and it seemed appropriate to my life. I always find the first few chapters depressing and slow going, but then Charlotte Bronte's unique brand of insanity sucks me in and by the time I finish the book I just want to read nothing but Villette for the rest of my life. It's probably some form of Stockholm Syndrome.

Awww, that'd be great. Except let's not have Lucy get at Ginevra's daughter TOO early, I don't want her to crush her spirit. Lucy Snowe I think is basically Miss Scatcherd from Jane Eyre at this point, n'est-ce pas?

Aw, thanks! I never feel that confident of my gif game, so that is nice to hear.

I would like Kate Beaton of Hark! A Vagrant! to abandon all her present artistic endeavors and devote herself solely to writing a webcomic about Lucy's adventures living with Ginevra and her husband. That'd be swell.

But isn't it just fantastic that we read it? We read ALL of it. And Ginevra/de Hamal/Lucy ot3 forever; I maintain that that's what happened a couple years later and it was amazing.
