How is this called a “sequel” to Five Children and It and not a fanfic? That book was one of the two most beloved in my family. We read it out loud, and every time we started, our cat Sammy would come running and snuggle up to read with us. He liked hearing his name.

Love these links 😀 Anger on the internet…sigh. I find myself staying away from social media more and more often. The constant indignation grates on one’s soul.

I’m going to have to read that Strange Fruit article for sure. I read a graphic novel with that same title but it’s not the same one referenced. I don’t think? Off to investigate!

You always find the best links, Jenny. I loved the diagram about what to do with anger on the internet. Maybe it could be reproduced as a sticky alongside all the comments sections of national newspapers? Because I read those and feel my heart sink for the human race.

That Gene Denby piece is terrific. I’m absolutely against flying the Confederate flag in public spaces, and I wouldn’t have it in my home now, but I grew up with it, and its meaning to me and many others back then was not really about race. I think the racist meaning trumps any regional pride meanings, but I also don’t want to make assumptions about the individuals who feel an attachment to it. It’s more complicated than just racial hatred.

And the Rebecca piece is so great. I liked that Maxim (sort of) saw the error of his ways, though, because I can’t quite get over my crush on him, even though I know he’s terrible.

In reply to JeanPing. I went home from work and read it. It's really pretty darn good, though I think the author took the Psammead in a different direction. Expect review soonish.
