I am very, very late in commenting to tell you your enthusiasm for Hamilton made me listen to it, then decide to listen to it again, then fall in love with it, then force my family to start listening to it (they insisted we turn it off so we could engage in meaningful communication instead. Priorities, or something).

I think I’ve told you most of that in other venues already, though, so we’re probably good.

In reply to Michelle. Oh my gosh, yes. You have to listen to the Hamilton cast recording. I haven't fallen this in love with a musical since I was a teenager, honestly.

In reply to Andi. Onward! And I will say, not liking previous Hilary Mantel books doesn't have to be a measure of whether you'll like Wolf Hall. I just cannot describe to you how much I hated Beyond Black. And Wolf Hall, once you start it, is surprisingly unintimidating!

My reading year was about so-so. Mostly stuck to fantasy reads. I discovered Sarah J.Maas who was absolutely great and read her books obsessively. Another favorite was David Mitchell. But otherwise it was a nothing much kind of a year. Glad to see the back of it.

Wheeeee, books! You probably already know I loved Nimona and Between the World and Me. I have yet to read Mantel because she scares me, so I think I’m going to start with her short stories. Onward!

I tried listening to the Hamilton cast recording a few months ago but initially couldn’t get into it, I think because I was trying to listen while doing other things and just couldn’t pay attention properly. More recently, my boyfriend has been obsessed with it, so I gave it another try on New Year’s Day (this time listening to it with him, without trying to do anything else except playing agar.io (our other recent obsession!) and reading some of the lyrics on genius.com) and yeah, I love it/we proceeded to spend the rest of the weekend basically listening to it on repeat.
