Jefferson deciding that hey, Presidential power is kind of nice and also being told that Hamilton never did a damn thing wrong and that his system was kind of brilliant are two things that just tickle me. Haha, Jefferson.

He is having increasing difficulty with depression, his actions are becoming very paranoid, his later behavior is increasingly irrational, and his mood is increasingly labile…also, his rep was very much as a “lady’s man,” which, admittedly, could mean anything. I mean, l am not his doctor. It’s just, these are things that seem concerning, when combined with his manic energy, which nobody could deny.

Well, I am not all the way done with this book, but he doesn’t seem at all bipolar to me. He seems to have a hot temper, for sure. And he was clearly an energetic dude. But I’m just not convinced that he’s got any of the other symptoms. He hasn’t been grandiose at all (well, he has, but then he’s always backed it up by actually doing the crazy things he says he’s going to do — obviously if anyone else said “I SHALL MAKE A NATIONAL BANK,” I would think they were nuts), he hasn’t had problems with risky behaviors like alcohol or sex (apart from Maria Reynolds), he doesn’t make crazy fiscal decisions. I just don’t think so.

Aw, no, I know all that. And Chernow does say that stuff too! It’s just that I don’t expect much out of Jefferson in terms of him being a jerk? Whereas Hamilton is a man of unimpeachable integrity (apart from that one Maria Reynolds thing), and I just want him not to make stupid laws. And be perfect. You know, achievable goals.

I KNOW! Or if they would even just tape it with the original cast before they all go off to other projects. I don’t mind if they don’t release it right away! They could release it five years from now, and that’d be absolutely fine too. Just, I would love to have a DVD of it that I could watch whenever I wanted to.

Aw, Jeanne. I sympathize. I mostly skip the death scene song ANYway, even without there being anything for it to give sad associations to.
