Wow, your great-grandfather is awesome based on those alone! I just finished THE HOUSE BY THE LAKE by Thomas Harding (highly recommend) and have started THE ECLIPTIC by Benjamin Wood.

In reply to Nishita. Aw, yeah, I've been meaning to read Pretties for ages, it looks really fun. I'm glad you like the new blog look! And the header photo is actually the Jal Mahal in Jaipur -- so it is a lake palace, just not the one you were thinking of!

In reply to Charlie (The Worm Hole). It really is! I know they've done experiments that show people are more stressed and less happy when you offer them ten times of jam to choose from versus three. I always wonder if that applies to books too.

Oh, I liked it! And it’s long by page count, but it’s written quite journalistically, so it goes by fast. I read it in one afternoon, which I mean — I’m a fast reader, but an academic nonfiction book of that length would NOT be the work of a single afternoon. Did you like Dave Cullen’s book Columbine? It’s a lot like that.
