I love the tea/consent cartoon! Some people need that, sadly.
I'm guilty of writing reviews littered with themes when it comes to historical fiction and memoirs- I don't do it specifically to African American or African novels, but rather, I find with most historically based novels there are themes I'd rather discuss than say, something I can't exactly metamorphose into words, like how gorgeous the writing is. I think that's why I quote things so much. I'll try not to be overbearing with it in the future but darn it- it's kind of what I do. I'm hopeless at picking up symbolism, so themes tend to earn at least a paragraph in my reviews, along with the characters and plot.

That article about African fiction was so on the dot. That mentions all the problems I have with finding international fiction. As much as I would love to be more learned on history in countries outside the US, I want to find the kind of African or Asian books that I generally read if they were US books - books about families or school or maybe nothing in general.

That IP address story is so crazy... I can't imagine being the owners of that Kansas farm. I'm glad the company said they're doing something about it though, that's at least a positive change.

These are some really great links -- thanks for sharing. The thing about the IP address problem at that farm in Kansas is particularly amazing and horrible and weird. I've been wasting my Friday morning at work by going around and telling my coworkers about ti.

The poor dodo and those poor people in Kansas! What a nightmare. Glad the MaxMind people are going to change their defaults though. I wonder why no one contacted them to begin with?

Boy, do I agree about Sherman Alexie. That seems like a teaching moment.
In fact, my daughter is moving to NC next year for grad school. When she visited, she said they fell all over themselves apologizing for the state's backwards laws.
