I read The Westing Game for the first time when my kids were 7 and 10 and didn't love it. It struck me as one of those puzzle books for kids that want to be From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler but are only pale imitations. They're all enjoyable, but missing some spark. Or maybe a person like me, who isn't that fond of puzzles, can only love the first one she read, when she was a kid herself?
A friend of mine with younger kids just discovered Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library, which seems to be the newest iteration.

OMG OMG OMG I am so in love with The Westing Game. Hands down favorite book of my childhood. Okay, well maybe along with the Anastasia Krupnick series. So NOW I am immediately placing a hold on Bellweather Rhapsody! Thanks, Jenny!

Turtlllllle! I was so excited when I realized that Turtle's name (well, the name she has Flora call her) is Alice, and that's the same as the bumptious, obnoxious heroine of Bellweather Rhapsody. Synergy!

The Simon/Baz and Cath romance stuff was very lovely too, in Fangirl. I'm not taking away from any of that. But just, what interested me more was the thing of stepping away from your kid relationship with a sibling and muddling your way into an adult relationship with that sibling.

Read The Westing Game! Oh it's so good!
