Very very true. As soon as I start looking for information on anything, it turns out there's a whole rabbit hole to go down in re: that thing. Makes me so thankful to have the internet!

Yes! It's the best! I was always so grateful to bloggers for expanding my reading horizons and telling me about books that might have flown under my radar otherwise, but even more so in the last couple of years.

Oh gosh. A good place to start, maybe not? I mean it's an excellent book, and I liked it a lot, but it's a slightly more demanding read in terms of asking the reader to know things about Cameroonian history. If you haven't read any African fiction whatsoever, you can't go wrong by starting with Chimimanda Ngozi Adichie. Half of a Yellow Sun is absolutely wonderful, but gut-wrenching. Her third novel, Americanah, is only set in Africa for part of it, but it too is extremely wonderful.

I think you pay closer attention than most, but I do think the bookish internet in general is paying more attention to diversity and it's really paying off. I'm seeing so many more books by authors I hadn't heard of, in settings I don't usually see, with characters that aren't typically portrayed in fiction, than ever before. And I think that's such a wonderful thing.
