This was fun! My daughter would love this – she has a shiny new book blog – I think I’ll tell her about this tag!
I do love Ariel, except for the fact that it’s made very clear that she is 16 (only just turned!), and she gets married at the end of the movie. Even for Disney, that seems kinda young (even creepy). How old is Prince Eric?

Okay, so I just finished a book that maybe might be close to your ideal book criteria – Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine. Totally dystopian and partially boarding school-ish and some nice strong girls in it, though they aren’t super awesome friends because it’s a competition situation so mostly everyone is standoff-ish. I guess I’m saying that you might want to take a look. The second book in the series just came out!

I read American Gods a while ago, and his narration of The Ocean at the End of the Lane squashed my heart in the very best way. I’d give it a shot!

(The new lab manager at my old lab says that Gaiman recently joined her alma mater’s staff and is a bit of a jerk. I feel like this is always how these things go.)
