I see you’re reading some South American authors in translation. Nice. I’d like to try this one, since my last book by a SA author was a dud. If I’m going to read a parody of dictatorships, I’d rather it be an un-cynical one for at least the next few months…

My husband was living in Chile (Santiago) in 93-94. Does this have much about Chile at that time?

What an interesting premise! I think Eleanor and I will both have to read this book. I have been reminded of Orwell’s 1984 several times in the last week or two.

Oh wow, this seems incredibly to the point. And yet it remains a lighthearted enough read? I think I may need to pick this up as a fitting and not-too-bleak book to read.

Oh man, I totally wanted to read this when it first came out and none of my libraries had it, but now I’m going back on the hunt. I was mostly intrigued by the format, but everything else about it is even more appealing now.
