What’s worse is when I’m coming from a closer perspective than the other person have, and they disagree with me – not because they actually disagree with me, but because they haven’t listened to what I’m saying.

And I’m not going to give exact examples b/c they are ppl I’d o/w consider friends, but it’s like… it’s fine to have an opinion… but please think about the post I wrote in detail to explain why I have a problem with this, before you disagree with me so strongly without acknowledging any of the points I made!

Wonderfully written and terribly useful. This is going up there with Daniel José Older’s “Fundamentals of Writing the Other” as a must-read I will recommend to anyone and their grandma. (I’ve already shared it on Facebook–figured that would be okay since you have the little button.)

And then I read the Reading (As) (I) An (Am)erica review of The Abyss Surrounds Us that you linked to, and my immediate reaction was to think, “Oh, that’s not fair, they’re being so picky!” So I guess I’m still learning my multiplication tables! (I’ve decided I need to follow that blog, because it has incredibly useful, detailed responses that as a writer I can learn a ton from–for free! How awesome is that?)

I loved your Math analogy! And even more, the 3 tips. I have been guilty of responding or rather reacting instantly (not on social media though), but over time, I have learnt that stepping away is always, always the best thing to do, even if you are right (and not just on social media). Because you almost always have a better way to handle the situation after you have had some time to think about it.
