I've had this on my to-read list for ages and haven't gotten to it, but I don't have as good of an excuse as you do! Thanks for reminding me about it. It sounds as good as I expected!

I've never heard the term 'autoethnographic study', but it describes a lot of the books I like :)

"I’d have lost interest if I hadn’t been so darn interested." Ha! This does sound interesting. I have a very negative impression of for-profit colleges, having seen the impact of such an education on a friend of mine. I'm adding this book to my TBR. Thanks!

My oldest will soon be approaching high school and then college looms- yikes. It seems to be getting more and more complicated/difficult to get a good college education.....

Btw, I've waited well that long for a library hold before. Not because the library staff was inefficient about processing holds, but because the book was popular and/or there were few copies- I've been no. 40 or 50 in line to get a hold before! Right now I'm waiting for one that's overdue for return from the previous borrower... either they lost it or are still reading (weeeeeks!) or just forgot to bring it back yet.

A growing number of colleges like Kenyon now have summer programs for poor and first-gen students, so they get a good start (ours is called KEEP). And programs like Americorps have volunteers in high schools, helping under-prepared students fill out forms and figure out how to navigate college admissions.
