I have a postcard with a piece of the Berlin wall (it's encased in plastic) and wrote a poem about it last spring, for my series of poems that fit on postcards, linking it to the current political situation.

I didn't learn about the Berlin Wall in school, either. I am not sure if kids learn about it now. My niece is 10, I will ask her, but I doubt if they do have any lessons on it they're not until high school.
