I don’t remember the Berlin Wall coming down, BUT I knew about it because my grandma crossed the Berlin Wall and my grandfather helped people cross it (not how they met, although that would make a great story).

I remember in history class we barely ever got as far as studying the 1960s, and that was in the 90’s. I vaguely remember watching the Wall come down but I didn’t understand the significance. This book sounds great.

Girl, you are making me feel so old. I was watching the Wall actually come down on TV and crying. Plus, I had a whole childhood of novels and movies of people trying to escape East Berlin.

That does sound like something I need right now. I have a postcard with a piece of the Berlin wall (it’s encased in plastic) and wrote a poem about it last spring, for my series of poems that fit on postcards, linking it to the current political situation.

I didn’t learn about the Berlin Wall in school, either. I am not sure if kids learn about it now. My niece is 10, I will ask her, but I doubt if they do have any lessons on it they’re not until high school.
