Having ironically missed out yesterday’s BBAW topic, which was “how do you stay connected to other bloggers?”, in favor of dedication to my Alexander Hamilton readalong (so close to done!!), I now return to talk about burn-out! Day 5 One of the unfortunate side effects of reading and blogging like rockstars seems to be a tendency toward burnout. How do you keep things fresh on your blog and in your reading? I cleverly avoid this whole thing by not being a blogging rockstar. I AM SMALL BEANS AND THAT IS HOW I LIKE IT. You’re welcome for that sage advice!…

You’re welcome for that sage advice! I’m here all week! Tip your server!

In all seriousness, though, I’ve found that the best solution to this problem is to take breaks when I start to feel that blogging is more of a chore than a treat. I take breaks from all sorts of things when they stop being fun, and it accomplishes one of two goals: Either I realize I don’t miss the thing and don’t want it back; or by the time my scheduled break is over, I do miss the thing and very much want it back.

Another strategy that helps me is to refresh the way I blog, whether that means recapping a TV show for a change (this backfired and I am so tired of Jessica Jones, but don’t tell anyone that), or joining a readalong, or seeking out new bloggers to make friends with and get recommendations from. In fact one might make the argument that the reason I nudged my co-hosts into reviving Book Blogger Appreciation Week with me was exactly a means of making new blog friends. I am a master of benign manipulation!

Stop by the Estella Society to find out other bloggers’ strategies! And as ever, thanks to my BBAW co-hosts Andi, Heather, and Ana!
