So last night I dreamed that I was reading this book of Neil Gaiman’s I’d never heard of before. It wasn’t out yet, so the pages were black with white print, instead of white with black print. After a while I realized that I had a large stack of these books with black pages, and they were all by Neil Gaiman. IT WAS AMAZING. And I’m reading a book of C.S. Lewis’s essays, and he said this: [A reader] does not despise real woods because he has read of enchanted woods: the reading makes all real woods a little enchanted.…

I dreamed that I was at Barack Obama’s inauguration with the Endless. IT WAS AWESOME. It was so good that I turned off my alarm twice in order to carry on having the dream. (I never turn off my alarm.) I was very chummy with all of the Endless, except that Dream didn’t really want to chat. This led me to wonder whether I was one of the Endless. I didn’t see Despair or Desire, so I was probably one of those two, if I was anyone. Destruction was ridiculously huge, but very friendly. Destiny was surprisingly forthcoming with information…
3 CommentsBut I just read this and threw up in my mouth a little. I can’t help feeling like this person has to be being sarcastic. Because nobody could say these things seriously, right? I mean everyone has noticed that Bella is a cipher, right? Even if you have overlooked Edward’s tendency to stalk and make decisions for Bella and you think he’s the perfect man, you’ve noticed that Bella has no personality. I mean, right? Twilight centers on a boy who loves a girl so much that he refuses to defile her, and on a girl who loves him so…
8 CommentsFor Christmas I got Smoke and Mirrors (with a very cool cover), The Underdog (which comes before Fighting Ruben Wolfe and Getting the Girl, and which I did not know existed), Jane Eyre (this so incredibly cool copy with cool, spooky drawings – much nicer than the copy I have now, which is paperback and I got it when I was eight), a first edition of the letters of Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning (so sweet!), Deerskin, and a hardback of The Mummy Case, which is brilliant of course. And then I got Wall*E and Atonement and this movie…
3 CommentsDoctor Who is absolutely brilliant. I don’t know why I never watched it before. What a weirdo I was until relatively recently, spending all my time not watching Doctor Who. So if you have never seen Doctor Who before, you should just go ahead and find it, and watch it. I’m in love with it. There are dozens and dozens of episodes to watch, so you can probably just start anywhere. I’m watching The Mind Robber right now, and it is charming. As I type this, the absurdly adorable Zoe and Jamie (they are traveling around with the Second Doctor)…
Leave a Comment…or does today feel like the first chapter of the first Harry Potter book? I feel like setting off fireworks and sending owls to people. I want to hug conservatives and say “Even Republicans like yourself should be celebrating on this happy, happy day!” Enjoy history while it’s happening, everyone!
Leave a CommentHenry VI, Part II, is so much better than Henry VI, Part I. I just wanted to mention that. I’m not done with it yet but it’s way, way, way better than the first part. I’m not saying it’s the best play I’ve ever read, but I’m enjoying it, and I can envision a future in which I might read it again just for fun sometime. There’s so much political intrigue! Plus, shades of future plays – particularly Macbeth. Gloucester’s wife is extremely ambitious, and there are prophecies that are rather cryptic. One contains the line “Let him shun castles”,…
Leave a CommentI had this idea because of a weird dream I had. This project is for after I finish reading the Harry Potter books – which I’m taking longer to do than I anticipated, because I’m enjoying it so much and I want to make it last. My next reading project – which will run parallel to my rereading The Good Fairies of New York and Lonely Werewolf Girl before finally reading Suzy, Led Zeppelin, and Me – will be to read all of Shakespeare’s plays, in chronological order. There’s at least twenty of Shakespeare’s plays I’ve not read, and you…
7 CommentsOf course my camera isn’t working. I mean, that makes total sense. Of course right this very day on which I got my cool new commonplace book from Ella at Box of Books, of course that would be the day my camera would choose to not work. It won’t save any pictures I take! So you’ll just have to take my word for it that the new commonplace book I got in the mail today is incredibly cool and pretty. I wish I were crafty. I can’t make anything. I’m terrible at drawing and I’m worse at crafts. The only…
1 CommentI have been reading books but not posting reviews of them. This is mainly due to three factors: school having started, me having a ‘sode, and the damn damn damn hurricane. I’m going to go ahead and blame it mostly on the hurricane, though that really isn’t fair. But who cares? HURRICANES ARE VILE. Today a really loud whooshing noise woke me up which may have been a great big enormous jet plane going over my head, and I suspect that this is ALL THE FAULT OF THE HURRICANE. I say no to hurricanes. No more hurricanes. Not one bit…
